The mountain flyinguses three different kinds of landing sites |

Landings on glaciers is a truly mountaineering effort which requires a high degree of flying skills. A sound knowledge of the mountains is key and many restrictive conditions have to be taken into account, the movements of the glaciers, the changing weather and lighting conditions in the mountains and the extremley diverse snow conditions. Therefore this kind of aviation is by no means a mass movement, but an extremely rewarding one which takes place in secret and requires great seriousness and discipline like all other mountaineering activities. The visited sites are not very numerous, the numbers of certified glaciers are extremely low. The pilots waive to spread out everywhere. Considering the large number of transportation facilities and the huge mass of mountain climbers all with their environmental impact one can surely say that our pilots who drop in only very occasionally are of no importance. The mountain pilots are so far the only mountaineers who are subject to radical restrictions and nobody can beside that claim to have exclusive rights to use those high alpine areas. We accept that fully and completely but we expect a genuine fair play by others. |

| This category permits to our pilots to
explore all aeronautical difficulties, to acquire precision and self-discipline and to
learn with large satisfaction from nature, without being stretched to the additional
complications of the glacier flights. Altisurfaces are remote landing strips, often in the proximity of a hut or alp, which gives us the opportunity for friendly encounters with the inhabitants or restaurant operators. Our visits contribute substantially to the maintenance of so many rural places and bring to the inhabitants numerous human contacts. The altiports in France stand rather for general aviation and for tourist flights to the benefit and the commercial goals of those, which built them. They are less used by our pilots with the exception of those, which are completely remote and lonely: Corlier, La moth Chalançon or Peyresourde. |

| The backcountry fields | ![]() |
|
| This backcountry
activity takes place on airfields with various degrees of difficulties. Often they are
private owned and some have the shape of altisurfaces. During so many stops we are able to
tie lifelong friendships. Like in the mountains we contribute by landing to some living
costs and provide also to local diversions. Beside the pilots interest into nature this
landings allow important personal training and will by that lead to an often lifesaving
improvement of our flying skills. All those new friendships are very much appreciated by
us. Simplicity, cordiality, friendship and authenticity. Obviously in comparison to what is commonly understood as general aviation which uses for long range and business flights IFR, controlled airports and all kind of recourses, which costs the taxpayer a lot of money, mountain flying is a very special and complete different kind of aviation with no burden what so ever on the general public. |
